This course explores a range of social theories that have been used in educational theory and empirical research to explain reproduction, transformation and change in education and schooling. The course will cover micro and macro sociological perspectives on social class, gender and ethnicity. It will provide an opportunity to critically apply social theory to some enduring problems, and potential solutions, to equity in education.
| Objectives | This course provides students with the opportunity to: 1. develop a sophisticated understanding of key concepts and historical trends related to equity and social justice in education; 2. explore a range of social theories relating to issues of equity and social justice in education; and 3. critically evaluate and apply key concepts and social theories to educational issues. |
