The practicum will provide students with opportunities to gain exposure to O&M programs and teaching situations under the guidance and assistance of an experienced instructor. Students will receive a gradual induction into the profession of O&M.
Students will have opportunities to work with clients with VI and multidisabilities from a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Students will be required to plan, implement, and evaluate a broad range of mobility programs, with significant consideration given to professional ethics and reflective practice.

| Objectives | Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to: 1 Independently plan, deliver, and evaluate long cane, id cane, and support cane programs; 2 Deliver cane programs in domicillary environments or the environment of the client's choice; 3 Maintain client-related records / documentation; 4 Demonstrate professional ethics and reflective practice. |

| Content | Topics will include: - Planning, delivering, and evaluating cane programs; - Tactile mapping; - Effective communication with clients and related professionals (including the use of interpreters); - Maintaining client's records and files; - Using organisational systems to log and monitor the progress of O&M programs; - Client confidentiality; - Code of Ethics governing the practice of a certified O&M instructors; - Reflective practice. |
