This course introduces students to the research and development literature on the relationship between Authentic and Productive approaches to teaching and teachers' professional learning. In particular, the course will examine the literature on professional development and explore implications of productive and authentic models of teaching. As part of this course, students will be introduced to recent attempts to improve the quality of teaching practice using productive and authentic models of teaching. In addition, the course will assist students to identify strategies that could be used in implementing productive and authentic approaches in their own work places. The course will be delivered in a flexible mode combining an intensive face-to-face component with distance facilitation of student-centred learning by on-line discussion and email communication.
|Objectives||(1) To introduce students to models of professional learning that are consistent with Productive Pedagogy and Authentic Pedagogy models of teaching
(2) To help students develop of deep understanding of the pertinent research literature
(3) To assist students in the analysis of current professional learning practices in educational settings
(4) To enable students to design professional learning strategies and programs for their own site.
|Content||An introduction to current understandings of teachers' professional learning, conventional professional development practices and the need for new models of productive teacher learning
An analysis of the relationship between the organisation of teachers' work and the role of teachers' professional learning in organisational improvement
An introduction to, and application of, organisational strategies designed to promote productive teacher professional learning.
