The course examines current research on developmental disabilities with the goal of increasing students' awareness of the causes and characteristics of a variety of disabilities, together with current approaches to service provision. Causes of disability, types of disability and the support needs of people with disabilities will be examined. Several specific disabilities will be studied in greater detail, and students will be expected to complete an in-depth study in one of these areas.
