Examines policy, administration and collaboration in special education including the development and implementation of policy and procedures, leadership skills, professional ethics, curriculum development, and program management. Interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate positive outcomes both for students with special needs and teachers will be examined in the context of special educators as potential change agents in the school.

Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. understand family perspectives and collaborative and co-teaching practices;
2. demonstrate reflective listening skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills and understand the role of whole-school social and emotional learning programs in promoting student wellbeing;
3. discuss the application of these skills in working with children, adults and other professionals;
4. overview policy and legislation in Special Education and its relationship to Special Education services and Australian education reform; and
5. describe Special Education curriculum and support approaches.
