The overall aim of this course is to provide a sound knowledge and understanding of the theoretical concepts and best practices relating to administrative behaviour and educational management. Students will be encouraged to develop the skills and competencies necessary to be pro-active, efficient and effective administrators and managers.

Objectives The Course seeks to:

- Broaden the knowledge and understanding of administrative behaviour and the processes involved in managing educational institutions and systems more efficiently and effectively
- Facilitate the development of skills and competencies based on theoretical concepts and best practices to refine and improve practice to become more effective and pro-active leaders, managers and educators.
- Encourage the adoption of appropriate administrative behaviour and practices in developing appropriate visions, goals and strategies to empower and energise the relevant stakeholders for continuous improvement of organisations.
Content This course provides an in-depth knowledge and understanding of ten broad topics. These are:
administrative behaviour in the context of educational management, theoretical concepts helpful in improving administrative behaviour, administrative structures & systems, belief patterns and administrative values affecting decision making; administrative tasks and responsibilities of executives; management as an integrating activity, educational planning and Policy Formulation, centralisation vs. decentralisation and devolution, school-based management as a participatory model, and leading & managing educational change.

Other: (please specify) Subject evaluation consists of three assessment tasks: two journal article type minor papers of 1350-1500 words (each)(2x30%) and a major written assignment of 2000-2100 words assignment(40%).
