Provides students with the opportunity to implement TESOL skills and knowledge in two site-based teaching settings.
Following the successful completion of the lecture and buddy sections of this course, the student will be required to complete 20 days of supervised practicum placement at an institution (College, school, language centre) that is authorised to teach English as a Second Language. This placement will involve the demonstration of competence in the normal teaching, supervision and preparation duties required by the host institution. Assessment will be in accordance with the approved University report form and will be conducted by a colleague teacher in collaboration with the course lecturer.
ObjectivesThe student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate effectiveness in developing in students competence in the use of ESL; 2. Adequately assess students abilities and short comings in communicating through ESL; 3. Incorporate materials and resources in creating a dynamic ESL teaching environment; and 4. Design an appropriate language syllabus in accord with the cultural context. | |
