Boys Education: Foundations for Successful Practice

The course will explore the current national and international information about educational and social outcomes for boys. Students will use this information to gather their own local data. The course will take a multi-disciplinary approach to analysing the current data based on research from a range of fields including a variety of perspectives on gender, learning and behaviour. It will review current policy and practice in educating boys in the light of current evidence pertaining to male identity.

| Content | 1. Discussion and review of theories and policies regarding boys' development and how these relate to teaching and learning practices in schools. 2. Current information on boys' academic achievement, health status and social situations, including discussion of differences relating to socio-economic status, ethnicity, Aboriginality, rural or urban geographical location. 3. Collation of local data pertaining to boys and preparation of strategy/policy documents. |
