Education Honours II: Research Design and Methods

This course provides an introduction to the educational research methods and design. Students will explore a range of methods for conducting educational research, and develop an understanding of their purpose and implications. Students will develop an understanding of research design, and develop their own research proposal under the mentorship of one or more members of the faculty.

Objectives
At the completion of this course the student will have the capacity to:

1) Understand different research methods used in education.
2) Select appropriate research methods depending on the goal of the research.
3) Understand research design.
4) Develop a research proposal.
5) Work effectively with a research mentor or supervisor.
Content
This course will address at a minimum:

- Research methods and methodology.
- Research design.
- Research Proposals.
- The supervisor-student relationship.

Minimum of 160 units of undergraduate study including:
120 units study in Education units incorporating both EDUC2102, EDUC2103, and EDUC4955; and an average GPA of 5.5 or higher.

Critique and analysis of a research paper in terms of the research methods deployed, and issues of reliability, validity, or their equivalents.

Development of a research proposal and ethics application for the students project.

Presentation of the research proposal at a faculty forum.
