This course enables students to develop the advanced skills in professional communication required by early childhood teachers, and to explore complex issues which necessitate the application of these skills.

Objectives Students will:
1. demonstrate understanding of the complex issues relating to communication in EC centres and schools
2. demonstrate skills in analysis and communication
3. work collaboratively as well as independently toward completion of assessment tasks
4. develop skills in collaborative learning
Content Topics include:
. the nature and purpose of communication in EC centres and schools
. the types of communication and their application in EC centres and schools
. specific skills in communication including skills required for providing information, self appraisal, promoting interpersonal relationships, resolving conflicts and dilemmas, becoming a strategic advocate

Requisite by Enrolment This course is only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Teaching / Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies programs. Students should undertake this course in the mid semester break before commencing EDUC4045 Early Childhood Internships.
