This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills related to sports coaching. Students will analyse the principles and practices of sports coaching in relation to individual and team sports. Students will explore the coaching issues embedded in the NSW syllabi and address the roles and responsiblities of coaches in the school setting. Advanced principles of motor skill acquisition and assessment will also be explored in this course.

Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to:
* demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of coaching;
* demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced motor skill acquisition and assessment;
* demonstrate coaching skills which are responsive to the characteristics of individuals;
* become familiar with recent research regarding coaching principles and practices in team and individual sports.

Essays / Written Assignments Assignment 1: (25%) Students will critically analyse a peer's coaching session using current theoretical research and coaching principles.
Examination: Formal Assignment 3: Students will complete a formal examination assessing all aspects of the course. 50 %
Presentations - Group Assignment 2: (25%) Students will prepare and demonstrate a short coaching intervention in response to an edited video analysis of a chosen sport. Students will also present a summary of a subsequent coaching session.
