Creative Arts for Early Childhood Education

Designed to provide students with the understanding, knowledge and appreciation of skills, processes and outcomes necessary to teach music, drama and visual arts in the K-6 setting.

Objectives Students will:
1. develop teaching and learning programs suitable for 0-5 and K-2 in music, drama and visual arts
2. select and adapt conceptually appropriate repertoire and resources appropriate for 0-8 arts
3. plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences in music, drama and visual arts
4. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development and content of the K-6 Creative Arts Syllabus
5. demonstrate the skills and understandings required to establish and maintain learning environments appropriate to preschool settings and K-2 classroom arts programs.
Content Topics include:
- Child Development in the Arts
- Theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of Arts Education and the K-6 Creative Arts syllabus
- Planning learning experiences in the Arts
- Programming for K-2 Music, Drama and Visual Arts
- Selecting appropriate repertoire and resources for Arts Experiences
- Addressing Cultural Diversity in the Arts
- Technology and the Arts
