The course content investigates into two distinct areas.
a) subject literacy (including numeracy, oracy and critical thinking specialist teaching areas)
b) computer literacy (understanding and use of information and communication technologies

Objectives

In order to meet the desirable attributes of a beginning teacher and to fulfill teacher registration requirements, all students should be able to demonstrate:

1. an understanding of the nature of literacy in Vocational Education contexts.
2. an understanding of the relationship between literacy and student learning.
3. an awareness of the central role of literacy within the community.
4. skills in assisting students to acquire and use literacy skills.
5. skills in the use and evaluation of appropriate literacy assessment instruments.
6. an understanding of computer based technologies and their use in Vocational Education contexts.
7. critical and discerning attitudes and values related to computer applications.
8. skills in working in technologically diverse environments.
9. the ability to determine assumptions, bias and interaction paradigms in computer packages and applications.
10. skills in evaluating student learning from computer based activities.

2. Language and culture
3. Language testing
4. Specialist language styles
5. Language potential and language problems in specific teaching styles
6. Computer competencies will be assessed in tandem with language development tasks
