This course will develop students' understanding and appreciation of play as a valuable pursuit in childhood and as a means of achieving optimal educational development . Students will be given the opportunity to observe, plan, teach and evaluate play frames and experiences in early childhood sites 0 - 5 yrs.
Professional Experience: this course has a compulsory professional experience component including 5 rolling days and a full time block placement of 15 days.
| Objectives | Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of play; 2. Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of theories of play; 3. Critically evaluate play materials and play environments; 4. Observe and identify the types of play children engage in; 5. Observe, plan, implement and evaluate a range of play experiences; 6. Recognise the emergent curriculum as an integral part of the planning process in early childhood. |
