Professional Experience 1
Students attend campus-based preparation sessions and undertake 20 days work place experience in a 0-5 setting. Students apply learning from campus-based courses and engage in new learning to develop teaching techniques, strategies and understandings that are best learnt in the workplace.

|Other: (please specify)||Students are provided with ongoing oral and written feedback, a written progressive assessment and a written final report by service staff. On at least one occasion, students are provided with written feedback on their progress by University staff. Final grade awarded by supervising University staff on the basis of levels of competency in professional attributes, content studies, teaching, learning, and assessment, literacy and communication. |
A pass (ungraded) will be recommended when:
1. The School of Education receives the original signed report indicating that the student has met requirements; and
2. The relevant Assistant Director of Professional Experience confirms that all requirements to pass the course have been met.
To be awarded an Ungraded Pass for the course students must satisfy requirements for the placement and the preparation and support program.
On their Workplace Report students must achieve ratings at or above the ratings identified by shading on the competencies in the Workplace Report. For competencies where there are no ratings shaded, students must achieve ratings of at least Basic (B).
Preparation and Support
Students must complete all preparation session tasks within the designated timeframe; and submit their Professional Experience Workplace Folder to the Assistant Director (Early Childhood) Professional Experience Unit at the end of the Professional Experience placement.
Withdrawal from a Course Containing a Placement
This course contains a professional experience placement, so the official withdrawal policy is different to other University courses. In this course, students may withdraw without academic penalty one week or more before the placement is due to begin. In other words, the official final date for withdrawal is one week prior to commencement of the placement. This will allow prior notice to be given to schools of any student's intention to withdraw from the placement, and may allow the place to be re-allocated.
Withdrawal after the official date will usually result in an "F" grade. If there are special circumstances, students may apply to the Head of School for permission to withdraw from the course, after the official final date, without academic penalty. Permission to withdraw will not normally be given to students who have begun the placement and been placed "at risk" or advised that they are likely to fail.
Mandatory Program Component
This course is a Mandatory Program Component of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies Program. Students must complete this course successfully to progress to EDUC3102 Professional Experience 2. Students who fail EDUC2047 Professional Experience 1 are declared at risk at the point of the first failure, and asked to show cause if they fail the course a second time.

Before commencing the Professional Experience placement, students in this course must: hold a current Child Protection Certificate; sign a Prohibited Employee Declaration Form; and sign a confidentiality statement.
Professional Experience Placement
Students in this course must not be placed in an early childhood service where they are/have been employed; where they have undertaken extensive work experience/volunteer work; where their children attend; and/or where relatives and/or friends work.
