This course consists of approximately 20 days of school-based experience. Observations of learners, teachers and the teaching environment occur. Opportunities to plan, teach, manage, assess and reflect on aspects of teaching are provided.

|Objectives||This course contributes to the following course objectives:|
1. General professional attributes: Demonstrate understanding of, and commitment to, the highest professional and ethical standards; Demonstrate effective communication; Demonstrate interpersonal skills to co-operate effectively with professional colleagues, and to be collegial members of the teaching profession.
2. Teaching and Learning: Demonstrate sound and adequate knowledge of learning processes and the implications for teaching; Demonstrate teaching competencies (observing, planning, managing, assessing, communicating, analysing, researching) appropriate to their intended role; Demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with learners and to encourage student behaviour, which promotes learning; Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of teaching learners in specified developmental stages, year levels or age ranges and in specified curriculum areas.
3. Working in Schools and Systems: Demonstrate an understanding of the organisation and administration of schools and other educational settings and the importance of co-operation with other social agencies. Demonstrate an understanding of the general nature of diversity and the conceptual and ethical issues involved.
|Content||This course entails the equivalent of 20 days of school based experience, with components of teaching, observation and reflection.|
The emphasis will be on developing observational and analytical skills as the student teachers begin exploring their own teaching potential. The intent is to provide student teachers with the opportunity to observe teachers and classroom, to assist and team teach with experienced teachers and to solo teach so as to broaden and reflect on their roles and responsibilities.
|Transition||EDTE302 and EDSY201 will run concurrently in 2001. After 2001 EDTE302 will be deleted and students who have not successfully completed EDTE302 will enrol in EDSY201.|
