Provides students with an understanding of young children's development in relation to the learning of mathematics. Students plan, implement and evaluate appropriate learning activities in the area of mathematics.

Objectives For students to demonstrate
1. understandings of young children's development and to apply these to the teaching of mathematics
2. that they can plan, implement and evaluate appropriate learning experiences for young children in the area of mathematics
3. ability to use state syllabus documents in planning and programming for mathematics
4. understanding of content knowledge in mathematics.

. concrete materials and practical experiences
. organising learning environments
. selecting, developing and evaluating resources
. social justice perspectives
. assessing and recording children's progress
. developing understandings of number
. young children and spatial experiences
. measurement and young children.
