Developmental Foundations of Early Childhood 1

Examines development from conception through infancy and early childhood to age eight. Students develop an understanding of developmental concepts, principles and processes, research methods and ethics, and various theoretical perspectives relating to child development, and the implications for early childhood education.

Objectives Students will demonstrate:
1. understandings of different theoretical perspectives on physical, social, emotional development.
2. understandings of developmental concepts, principles and processes.
3. understandings of the complexity of ecological factors that influence development.
4. understandings of, and skills in studying children's development.
5. understanding and skills in planning to support physical, social and emotional development.
6. collaborative learning and teamwork skills.
