PE Studies 2: Performance Activities

Students will apply movement principles and develop skill competencies and teaching techniques across a range of core physical activities. Specifically, students will examine the areas of dance and gymnastics.

Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to:

1) demonstrate skill competencies relating to a range of dance and gymnastics physical activities;
2) display a capacity to apply appropriate teaching/coaching strategies to dance and gymnastics;
3) demonstrate an understanding of the safety issues regarding school-aged participation in these activities.
Content This course focuses on performance activites relevant to dance and gymnastics. Students will participate in practical tutorials to develop skills and confidence in a range of dance and gymnastics activities.
Replacing Course(s) HUBS1507 Foundations of Health and Physical Education - which incorporates HUBS1502 Philosophical Foundations of Physical Education and PUBH1060 Health 1A.
Transition Transitional Arrangements will be managed on a case by case basis according to the needs of the student.

Assessment Items
Examination: Formal Assignment 3: (40%) This final examination will consist of written answers and select response questions. It will examine the students' theoretical knowledge of the topics studied throughout the semester.
Other: (please specify) Assignment 2: (35%) Performance of skills related to course outcomes.
Presentations - Group Assignment 1: (25%) Group presentation consisting of peer teaching.
