Introduces the profession of teaching. Students are expected to act as novice teachers and to observe practising teachers. Students will be introduced to various aspects of teaching including planning for teaching, teaching techniques, pedagogical models, teaching as a professional, legal and ethical aspects of teaching, motivating students to learn, and identifying and assisting students who are experiencing problems at schools and Early Childhood Centres. One focus will be learners and what effective teachers must know about learners and theories of learning. A computer competency requirement is attached to this course as part of the School of Education's commitment to developing technology skills in novice teachers.
ObjectivesStudents will have: 1. begun to think of themselves as novice teachers embarking on a four year course which will prepare them for entry into the teaching profession; 2. taken on the role of teacher; 3. developed their ability to observe carefully in educational settings; and 4. demonstrate how teaching can be informed by theories of learning. | |||
