Introduces students to leadership in early childhood settings. Current trends in leadership styles and the relevance of leadership theories will be explored. Major areas that will be examined include professional communication and interpersonal relations, planning and organisation of services; financial management and staff development.
| Objectives | As a result of participating is this course, students will be expected to: 1. describe the complex role of the manager in early childhood settings; 2. analyse management of children's services using a case study approach; 3. justify the importance of working with colleagues, families and policymakers to advocate for high quality children's services; 4. propose strategies for policy development and implementation; 5. analyse approaches to leadership in educational and human service organisations; and 6. examine change management processes as a means to improving practice in educational and service organisations. |
