Extends the skills developed in music, arts and humanity, and introduces the student to specific pedagogy for music, visual arts and drama in the early years. Students will examine appropriate contemporary practices for arts programming, implementation, assessment and evaluation in early childhood. Issues of advocacy, resourcing and management in early childhood arts education will also be addressed.
As a result of participating in this course, students will be expected to:
1. understand theories of development in music, visual arts and drama for 0-5 year old children;
2. explain the link between knowledge and skill acquisition in the arts and other domains;
3. understand the importance of process in creative endeavours;
4. design and implement appropriate learning experiences in the arts for 0-5 year old children.
