Introduces students to the theoretical and practical issues related to planning and teaching in their first teaching subject. It focuses on developing students' skills in, and knowledge about, teaching strategies appropriate for junior secondary classroom. It examines NSW syllabus for K-6, and 7-10 in order to develop students' ability to develop suitable teaching and learning programs.

ObjectivesAs a result of participating in this course, students will be expected to demonstrate:

1. Knowledge of the structure and content of syllabuses in their first teaching subject;

2. Ability to plan a unit of work and create a series of lessonplans based on syllabus outcomes and content;

3. Ability to select and sequence appropriate learning activities for lessons;

4. Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies appropriate to their teaching subject;

5. Knowledge and understanding of some aspects of classroom management and administrative techniques appropriate for their teaching subject;

6. Knowledge of appropriate resources for teaching and learning in the first teaching subject.

7. Understanding of reflective practice.
