This course prepares students to teach the English Key Learning Area in K-6 contexts. Students will examine contemporary views of language and literacy learning and explore how these are constructed in English K-6 syllabus documents and associated curriculum support documents.
| Objectives | Upon the completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate: 1. understanding of theories of language and literacy 2. knowledge of the content and structure of English K-6 curriculum 3. understanding of effective teaching approaches for English in the primary classroom 4. ability to select appropriate texts to promote language and literacy learning 5. ability to select appropriate teaching and learning strategies 6. ability to plan lessons based on English syllabus outcomes 7. knowledge and understanding of assessment of English syllabus outcomes 8. understanding of ways of using outcomes to integrate learning in English with learning in other key learning areas |
