This course develops knowledge, skills and understanding with respect to classroom management in school settings. It provides an introduction to theories underlying child behaviour and classroom management, the principles of good classroom management particularly key preventative and interventionist strategies, and strategies to respond to more challenging student behaviours. The course has a strong practical emphasis grounded on the Integrated Model of Classroom Management. This course is mandatory for all primary and secondary teacher education students.
ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate: 1. a basic knowledge and understanding of key theories about child behaviour 2. a working knowledge and understanding of The Integrated Model of Classroom Management 3. a working knowledge and understanding of key preventative and interventionist strategies to create positive learning environments for school students 4. a basic knowledge and understanding of key strategies to respond to more challenging student behaviours 5. a basic practical ability to apply this knowledge and understanding and these skills to plan for effective teaching and learning in school settings | |||
