Issues in Adolescent Development

Provides the basis for understanding adolescent development in an ecological context. It will address issues relevant to the provision of educational experiences for young adolescents. Biological, social, emotional and personality development will be contextualised in terms of challenges to development in today's society.

Objectives Upon the completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate:

1. Understanding of the nature of adolescent development;

2. Awareness of the relationships between the contexts of adolescent development and behaviour;

3. Ability to promote gender equity in classrooms;

4. Skills to enhance the self esteem and identity of young adolescents;

5. Knowledge of significant issues in adolescent health and wellbeing.
