Students are required to attain and demonstrate advanced academic and professional skills through continuing field and studio work. Production of a single-themed goal directed body of artwork plus related research and support material is required to successfully complete the prescribed components.

This course concentrates on the refinement of the research proposal, development of ideas and production of preliminary artwork in preparation for DESN4620 and DESN4630.

ObjectivesThe main objectives of this course are for students to:
1. gain advanced skills in acquiring, organising and presenting visual information;
2. apply creative and innovative approaches to the visual interpretation of the natural world;
3. utilise experimental and practical illustration techniques;
4. apply technology relevant to the Natural History Illustrator;
5. instill the importance of commitment to the field of Natural History Illustration by providing students with individual pathways and learning outcomes.

2. Development of studio practice and skills.
3. Research toward and production of a goal-directed body of artwork.
4. Occupational health and safety in the studio and field.
5. Contact with relevant professional organisations through visits and workshops.
