This course builds on the theoretical and practical skills gained in DESN4220 and DESN4230 and provides the framework for the final submission of visual communication design research ideas. The consolidation of research and support materials will lead to the production and critical analysis of a folio, thesis, exhibition or body of work including preliminary and written research material. The course involves presentation of research findings, the resolution of the research premise and the articulation of the final research project which will be theoretically, methodologically and technically sophisticated for which a grade will be given.

Objectives On completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Prepare for post-graduate study through a combination of theoretical, studio and practical research.
2. Produce a written research thesis or dissertation.
3. Demonstrate visual, verbal and written communication skills to a professional standard.
4. Articulate research findings using appropriate communication skills.
Content The content of the research project in the discipline of design will be substantially determined by the student in consultation with their supervisor. This will include a thesis appropriate to research undertaken at Honours level. This course will require the student to present and articulate the specifics of their design research project via verbal, visual and written methods.

The student will engage with the methodologies, legal and ethical approaches appropriate to the discipline of design.
