This multi-sequence course will prepare students for entry to the design profession by providing a focus on the production of a professional design portfolio. Working with a combination of client based tasks, practical and theoretical projects, the students will be challenged to produce a body of work suitable for final portfolio presentation.
Part A is the first of the two part sequence, and provides a focus on the production of design projects appropriate for presentation in the final portfolio. With the opportunity to explore areas of experimental design together with personal and client projects sourced internally and externally, the studio experience will enhance the cognitive and practical design skills necessary for further study and/or for entry into the design profession.
| Objectives | On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - Devise a design brief in response to a client brief; - Demonstrate studio production and time management skills; - Prepare and present a professional portfolio of work - Demonstrate an ability to rationalise and articulate conceptual design solutions; - Display an ability to articulate and experiment with areas outside the areas of mainstream design practice; - Work in a co-ordinated team or as a self disciplined individual in the direction and production of professional visual communication design; - Display a critical awareness of contemporary issues relevant to professional visual communication practices; |

| Content | Topics will include: - Folio preparation - Experimental design techniques - Contemporary professional practice - The creative team - Semiotics for visual communication - Client communication and interaction - Exhibition and display techniques - Commercial studio practice - Visual research methodology - Design studio logistics The parts of the course are: Part A Production of work suitable for presentation in the professional portfolio. This will also include opportunities for experimental design and rapid responses to creative briefs. Part B Portfolio presentation comprising self-directed and client-driven projects that complete part 2 of a professional portfolio. |

| Transition | Students who have successfully completed DESN3350 - Design Major Folio will not be required to complete DESN3190A and DESN3190B. Credit cannot be obtained for both DESN3350 and the multi-sequence course DESN3190A and DESN3190B. | ||||||||
