Photographic Construction and Art Direction

This course introduces students to photography as an art directed design practice. It will provide students with a basic understanding of photographic pre-visualisation, art direction and studio image construction and studio lighting.

Objectives On completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Competently pre visualise and art direct photographic images;
2. Understand the difference between observational / documentary photography and studio based photographic constructions;
3. Demonstrate a basic competency in studio lighting techniques.
Content Topics will include:
1. Studio lighting techniques;
2. Light measurement and lighting contrast;
3. Photographic art direction;
4. Studio based photographic genres, including but not limited to portraiture, fashion, advertising, product, still life, tableaux, and experimental photography.
