This course aims to familiarise students with the practical and professional skills that they require when preparing design and art work for print. Students will gain an understanding of prepress and the physical requirements of the printing process from traditional techniques to digital printing, along with specialist print services and paper selection.

ObjectivesOn completion of this course, students will:
1 be able to understand and operate technologies appropriate to the tasks given;
2 be able to apply fundamental imaging technology to the making of digital art
3 be able to design and prepare artwork for a specified purpose;
4 have an understanding of how to prepare computer generated art work files for specific pre-press functions
5 display an ability to communicate with service providers to graphic designers;
6 demonstrate an understanding of how to make use of trade houses or bureau services;
7 analyse the effect of technology on the graphic arts industry in terms of pre-press and the use of computer input and output devices.
