Field studies play an important part in the role of the Natural History illustrator. Accurately recording aspects of the 'natural' world by way of field sketching, photography and specimen collection provides the illustrator with the visual material necessary to complete a specific task. The course introduces students to field study skills and techniques used by the Natural History illustrator.
The course consists of two project blocks which include some day excursions to a variety of accessible habitats, demonstrations of specimen collection and preservation as well as instruction in the use of recording techniques.
In order to participate in this course, students must complete a compulsory Workplace Health and Safety requirement. Students will receive full information on this Compulsory Course Component in the course outline provided by the school.
