The theory and practice of design process is introduced and explored through a series of problem-based learning projects. The course encourages original, imaginative and creative thinking together with a systematic approach to design problem exploration.

|Objectives||As a result of completing this course students will have a basic appreciation of:|
1 the relationship between design and technology;
2 the design brief and its role in the design process;
3 design principles.
|Content||Design methodology, techniques and processes at an introductory level are presented. Original, imaginative and creative thinking together with a systematic approach to design problem exploration is encouraged.|
A wide variety of design exercises and projects give students practice in the application of the design process. Interaction between design decisions, visual language and materials, and the ability to work within set parameters are explored.
