This course introduces students to the process of creating and designing visual narratives / stories through their use and understanding of a variety of image based media. It explores the relationship between the active process of observation and the production of the visible image as a designed construct.

Objectives On completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an awareness of the appropriate use of a variety of visual / mark making media in establishing a tone of voice;
2. Experiment with a variety of forms of visual / mark making media;
3. Communicate effectively in narrative form using appropriate visual / mark making media;
4. Confidently begin to develop their personal visual language.
Content Topics will include:
1. The visible image as a designed construct;
2. The relationship between investigating, understanding, and transforming visible images;
3. The affect of hand generated and lense media imagery on tone of voice and narrative design;
4. The role of hand generated and lense media imagery in visually communicating ideas
Replacing Course(s) DESN1200 'Visual Communication Drawing 1'.
Transition DESN1112 replaced DESN1200 'Visual Communication Drawing 1' in 2014. Students who have successfully completed DESN1200 will not be required to complete DESN1112. Credit cannot be obtained for both DESN1200 and DESN1112.
