Communication Honours II: Directed Readings

Students examine contemporary communication and media literature focusing on theoretical perspectives and methodological assumptions. Current trends are examined in the context of the history of the field. Students will undertake a review of the main traditions and positions in communication theory in order to develop a contextualised understanding of contemporary approaches to theorising communication. Emphasis will also be given to examinations of cultural production and practices including a focus on theorising, planning and executing professional practice in journalism, public relations and media productions.
| Objectives | On completing this course students will be expected to have contributed to a demonstration of: 1. the ability to engage with prior literature and creative material; 2. an articulation of the relevance of the thesis or creative project to existing literature and work in the field; 3. a development of critical and analytical skills; 4. research, project and time management skills and 5. thesis writing and production skills. |
