In this course students will be introduced to the skills and technologies of local, network and online radio production and programming. They will examine the history of radio in Australia, analyse radio as a culture industry, investigate radio programming and production as well as copywriting and the production of advertisements. In doing so they will also seek to understand audience research within the framework of contemporary radio formats. In this process they will gain an understanding of general programming and magazine formats.
In order to participate in this course, students must complete a compulsory Workplace Health and Safety requirement. Students will receive full information on this Compulsory Course Component in the course outline provided by the school.
| Objectives | At the successful completion of this course, students will: 1. be introduced to the communicative practices, skills and technologies of radio production; 2. have developed an understanding of the professional career paths in local, network and online radio; 3. be introduced to the skills required for making content for radio programs; 4. have developed an understanding of radio production and programming as they apply to general programming, magazine formats, radio plays, features and documentaries and been allowed to become competent in programming and live broadcast as it applies to the radio industry. |

Use of sound to construct narrative information for radio. 4. Radio genres - general programming and magazine formats 5. Copywriting for radio commercials. 6. Audience research. 7. Programming - formats, demographics and software use. 8. Production for commercials, spots and stings. 9. Radio announcing. 10. Use of digital workstations and streaming. |
