Explores some principles of dramatic writing, particularly for the theatre. The course will further develop and explore principles of dramatic writing with an emphasis on learning and applying dramaturgical skills and workshopping student plays. As well as seminar style discussions, students are given practical writing exercises in class to help free the imagination and develop techniques. Students are assessed in terms of attendance, completion of class exercises and the submission of a synopsis, scenario and a short play for the stage.

ContentStudents will develop a deeper understanding of dramatic writing by: critical analysis of the contemporary dramatic repertoire and the practical exploration of original student generated scripts Tutorial workshop will be concerned with: discussions on dramatic principles and dramaturgy; class based exercises intended to explore such principles; the development and workshopping of original student generated playscripts. It is intended that this process should culminate in a rehearsed reading of the work in progress. Course taught at Callaghan Campus only. | |||
