Exposes students to contemporary areas of debate on the themes of memory and history both within the Fine Arts and across disciplines. This course will alert students to issues arising in a range of disciplines which can be relevant and useful to the emerging artist and investigate the relevance of interdisciplinarity as a theme in its own right.

Objectives As a result of participating in this course, students will be able to demonstrate:
1. develop an awareness of current debates on the themes of memory and history across a number of disciplines
2. develop a reflective artistic practice based on individual history and memory and to incorporate theoretical directions within this reflective practice
3. incorporate interdisciplinary perspectives into a search for artistic subject matter
4. articulate the role of artistic practice in relation to these debates
5. develop specialized knowledge of a selected aspect of art theory
6. develop research and writing skills in relation to a topic related to the student?s creative direction.
7. critically apply the methodology and knowledge acquired during the study.
Content The following topics will be included:

Subjectivity and identity
Memory and artistic process
Narrative and rewriting history
Trauma and the role of image making
Holocaust and the impossibility of representation
What is interdisciplinarity?
Developing and maintaining artistic practice
Problem of originality, Gender, Comparison of art historical models

Transition Students who have successfully completed ARTC3010 Art HIs & Th: Memory, History, Interdisciplinarity may not enrol into CAPA3010.

Essays / Written Assignments Major Essay - 3,500 words - 40% of total assessment To develop research and writing skills in relation to a topic related to the student's creative direction. The polemic nature of the topic will also test the student's ability to critically apply the methodology and knowledge acquired during the study.
Presentations - Tutorial 20 minute Tutorial Presentation 30% of total assessment. To articulate the role of artistic practice in relation to the themes of memory and history.
Student Projects Pratical Project 30% of total assessment
To develop a reflective practical project based on individual history and memory
To be able to incorporate theoretical directions within this reflective practice
To incorporate interdisciplinary perspectives into a search for practical project matter
