This course is designed to develop visual literacy and skills in two-dimensional art practice. It provides a practical introduction to the methods and materials of drawing, painting and other two-dimensional art practices, a focus on the theme of the body in contemporary art, and an overview of the historical and theoretical underpinnings of two-dimensional art practice in contemporary culture.

Objectives By the end of the subject the student will:
1. have a basic understanding of the methods, materials and equipment necessary for the practice of drawing, painting and other two-dimensional art practices
2. have an understanding of the expressive possibilities of two-dimensional art practices
3. have a basic understanding of the historical and theoretical underpinnings of contemporary two-dimensional art practice
4. have a basic understanding of the historical relationship between the human body and art practice
5. have an understanding of health and safety issues and practices

Transition Students who have successfully completed ARTC1080 Visual Creativity: Drawing/Painting may not enrol into CAPA1080 Visual Creativity: Drawing/Painting.
