The course lays the groundwork for a critical [re]evaluation of performance practice. With reference to a variety of historical and cultural practices, the course will examine the foundational elements of creative performance, Body, Space, and Place, with an emphasis on practice-led creative exploration.

Objectives 1. To lay the groundwork towards a critical appraisal of the nature of performance;
2. To develop a basic understanding of performance practices;
3. To practically explore the central concepts of Body, Space, and Place in performance;
4. To apply creativity and collaboration as the primary approach to learning in the performing and creative arts.
Content This course introduces students to the ways in which performance space is constructed, and the ways in which a dramatic text is created and then translated from page to stage

At the successful completion of this course students will demonstrate:
1. The ability to critically analyse a diverse range of performance events within the context of historical and contemporary performance practices;
2. A basic repertoire of performance-making skills;
3. Ability to apply and integrate basic skills of performance making in a collaborative environment.

Transition Students who have successfully completed DRAM1010 Introduction to Drama 1 may not enrol in CAPA1010 Introduction to Drama.
