This course examines issues affecting the contemporary sports management environment. It investigates sports management at a macro, industry and organisational level. The course highlights a number of the critical aspects that entrepreneurs in sport need to understand before entering into the competitive sports business domain.

Objectives The objectives of this course are to ensure that students can:

1. Identify key issues in the development of sports management
2. Identify key issues for non-profit and professional sporting organisations
3. Prepare business strategies and a business plan for a sporting organisation
4. Evaluate key issues in the marketing of sporting organisations
5. Identify and understand critical issues related to managing a sports organisation
6. Evaluate governance and performance issues for sporting organisations
Content The course investigates current management issues for sporting organisations and applies a multi-disciplinary focus, including organisational behaviour, human resources management, finance and marketing.

Replacing Course(s) This course has been developed after consideration of current Bachelor of Management courses and advice from the external business community. The suite of courses capitalises on multidisciplinary staff resources within the School of Business and Management, and complements courses offered by other Faculties.
Transition Transition arrangements will be made to ensure that students transferring from current courses in the Bachelor of Management will not be disadvantaged, via maximum flexibility for credit transfer and special examination arrangements, where appropriate.
