Theatre and Performance Studies

This course is designed to allow students to further develop their knowledge and understandings of contemporary theatre and performance studies. It will draw from and further develop foundational concepts in relation to contemporary theatre and performance art and artists within current cultural and socio-political paradigms. The course will especially explore the role of the contemporary multi-media and intercultural performance artist.

|Objectives||At the end of ARTC3701 a successful student will be able to demonstrate:|
1. An understanding of the aesthetic, socio-political, theoretical and economic contexts underpinning a range of contemporary performance practices.
2. An understanding of the conceptually/theoretically driven nature of original performance making.
3. The ability to critically analyze the work of a range of contemporary performance artists as models in developing their own practical exemplars.
|Content||This course will involve the analysis and critical evaluation of theoretical and practical developments in the area of contemporary performance theories and related practice. Students will develop understandings of a range of contemporary models as frameworks for developing their own original contemporary performance works.|
