Distance Education - Callaghan Semester 2

Previously offered in 2012, 2011

Infrastructure Development simulates the preparation of an estimate and tender for a construction project. It draws on the knowledge and skills which student s have developed in soil mechanics, quantity measurement, estimating, tendering project planning and construction methods. In addition, this course exposes students to new subject ares as the project students will be tendering for is an engineering project and they will need to explore methods of construction that they are unlikely to come across before. Student will also be expected to evaluate and accommodate commercial and other factors that are likely to influence the tender price that their company submits for this work.

Objectives On completion of this course students should be able to:
- Understand the basic principles of soil mechanics and their application in infrastructure development;
- Carry-out quantity measurement for civil engineering works;
- Apply the concepts of method-related estimating in the construction industry;
- Understand and describe construction management and cash-flow in project delivery;
- Apply thorough knoledge of risk management and cashflow in project delivery
