Callaghan Campus Semester 2

Previously offered in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006

This course examines contemporary architectural communication skills including advanced Computer-aided Design (CAD) modelling and presentation, and web-based architectural collaboration using Building Information Modelling (BIM). Elements of advanced CAD modelling, photorealistic imaging, fly-through animation, photomontage and other presentation enhancement tools, and BIM will be applied to support the communication and collaboration of architectural projects.

Objectives To introduce contemporary architectural communication skills including advanced CAD modelling and presentation, and web-based architectural collaboration using BIM.
To understand and apply key principles of CAD modelling and production, and BIM for architectural project coordination and collaboration.
To exercise the practical skills in using advanced modelling and rendering features of commercial CAD applications for digital architectural design and presentation, and commercial CAD applications and web technologies to support BIM.
Content Advanced CAD modelling: complex forms, customised modelling libraries, and basic CAD scripts.
Advanced CAD presentation: model material and lighting setup, photorealistic image and fly-through animation rendering, and image post-processing using photomontage and other presentation enhancement tools.
Web-based architectural collaboration of BIM: core collaboration skills for architectural projects, web-based architectural communication of BIM using commercial CAD applications and web technologies.
