This course explores the modern built environment through the impact of construction and design decision-making at a global, national and local level. Elements of evaluation, assessment and rating for sustainable and resilient buildings and communities, environmental management integrated with the issues of cultural heritage protection, and management and theory.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Solve problems using environmental management principles relevant to the Built Environment.

2. Appreciate the effectiveness of ex-ante and post evaluation/rating/assessment tools used in decision making for sustainability.

3. Make decisions about the protection of cultural heritage through the examination of the importance of its significance, and authenticity.

4. Apply cultural heritage management principles to develop a plan for the management of a cultural property.

5. Express in written media supported by an appropriate referencing technique.
