This course examines the composite construction of buildings through the application and continuous demonstration of 'essential skills'. Elements of construction methods, techniques and detail will be integrated within the environmental and architectural context of the completed building.

Objectives On completion of this course students should be able to:
- To select suitable materials for the different parts of a building based on their performance, sustainability, maintenance requirements and cost
- To select structurally appropriate materials and construction techniques required by a building
- To creatively explore the detailing principles and possiblities of composite construction
- To understand the detail requirements of the composite construction of an external wall and roof
- Develop an awareness of contemporary materials, construction methods and systems.
