A course of directed study in selected ancient history topics for graduate coursework students. The range of topics will vary according to staff availability but will concern issues in ancient Greek and Roman history, culture and historiography.

Objectives On completion of this course, students will be able to recognise key issues in a selected range of topics in ancient history studied at graduate level; evaluate historiographical problems related to selected historical themes; develop research and writing skills appropriate to graduate students of history; develop skills of critical thinking and analysis appropriate to the liberal arts.
Content Topics to be covered will vary depending on staff availability, but may include: Greek history, Roman history, Latin and Greek cultural studies, including literature in translation, myth, comedy, sport, politics and war.

Essays / Written Assignments One to three short assessment tasks such as tutorial papers, essay proposals, annotated bibliographies or similar exercises, 1000 - 1500 words, 30%.
Essays / Written Assignments Major essay or research project involving independent research and writing, 2500 - 3000 words, 50%.
Other: (please specify) Class participation or online equivalent demonstrating preparation and involvement through tutorial presentation and discussion, class quizes, tutorial summaries, or other similar tasks, 1000 words or equivalent, assessed continuously, 20%.
