This course will offer students an opportunity to learn and to understand the rich and significant history of the shared political terrain of the Australian continent. We believe that the awareness of Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander political history has the potential to deliver a deeper understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experience since 1788 and offer a vision where all Australians can walk together to a future that is just and equitable for all.

Objectives * To increase the students' knowledge and understanding of the major themes and issues in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander political experiences;
* To draw the students' attention to the forces that shape our perception of the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander/Australian past and how history is used in the present;
* To enable the students to recognise and critically evaluate the Australian historical arguments they encounter in historical works;
*To introduce the students to some of the major varieties and approaches (methodologies) of historical study and critical analysis with a particular focus on an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander framework;
