Students will be directly exposed and participate in at least two major Australian Aboriginal cultural experiences which includes weaving, painting, cultural transmedia, dance or music immersing them in a deep cultural exposure and appreciation.
Objectives* Explore an understanding of Aboriginal cultural practice of two critical cultural exposures. * Develop elementary practical skills required in traditional Aboriginal cultural practice. * Acknowledgement of Aboriginal cultural practice as it relates to holistic understandings of culture. * Develop a sense of shared community teamwork as it relates to cultural practices and work. * Develop a practical understanding of Aboriginal societies' social structures as practiced through cultural expression and oral and graphic history. | |||
ContentStudents will undertake two practical cultural experiences over two course workshop options for 2hrs per week each over the semester. All students will chose between dance and music for option one and do one of the following for their second cultural experience, weaving or art. Each of these practical workshops will address in oral traditions the cultural significance of skills involved, division of labour associated with practices, contemporary practices and holistic orientation of cohesive community work practices. Students as the primary assessment will be assessed on a final presentation concert for practical experience one and produce an item for assessment from practical option two. | |||
