Designed to provide the fundamentals in academic and career written communication and an understanding of the purpose and use of these styles in a range of academic assessment tasks and professional work environments. The course caters for individual needs of students by providing a personal contractual learning base. Students will negotiate their personalised program with lecturers to achieve competency in the various academic and workplace communication skills encountered in the program of study.

Objectives The course focus is on developing the following competencies and knowledge bases in students:
1. Academic and professional writing skills
2. Oral expression and presentation
3. Critical analysis
4. Information technology skills
5. Research,referencing, and report writing skills
6. Independent learning skills and building confidence
7. Personal profiling in the workplace
Content The course will cover the following skills development and understanding in:
* Breaking down the barriers in tertiary assessment and professional communication processes
* Academic and professional writing styles
* Assignment requirements
* Referencing systems for academic & report writing
* Assignment/Report research techniques
* Information Technology
* Introduction to data base search processes
* Oral presentation
* Study and test techniques
* Being competitive in the workforce
